The match of the Albanian National Team against the Czech Republic, valid for the EURO 2024 qualifiers, will be judged by a well-known name in the international arena, which also shows the importance of this match. Dutch referee Danny Makkelie will be in charge of the delicate challenge between two teams that are direct rivals for next year's European qualification.
Makkelie, who in his first profession is a police inspector in the Netherlands, has managed for years at the highest levels in international football. He has directed important matches in the Champions League, as well as the Europa League final between Inter and Sevilla in 2020, without forgetting here also matches in activities such as Euro 2020 or the World Cup 2022, being rated among the best in circulation.
His assistants in this challenge will be compatriots Hesel Stegstra and Jan De Vries, while the fourth judge is the Dutchman Aleks Bos.
Makkelie's first contact with the Albanian national team was 10 years ago, as he was the fourth referee of the March 2013 challenge between Norway and Albania, won 1-0 by the Reds and Blacks thanks to Salih's goal. Then, he had to wait many years to head the red and black himself as the main referee, as he did so in September 2021. That was the match that Albania won 1-0 against Hungary thanks to Armando Broja's goal in "Elbasan Arena".
A good omen for the Reds and Blacks who hope to continue the winning streak with the Dutch referee. He has managed the Czech national team only once before, in the 2-1 defeat against Kosovo in 2019.
