The World Cup qualifier between Serbia and Albania at the Dubocica Stadium in Leskovac has been declared a high-risk match by all relevant institutions, FIFA, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Serbia and the Football Federation of Serbia. In order to ensure maximum security for all participants and spectators, FIFA has decided to send two security officers to Leskovac specifically for this occasion.
Their presence clearly confirms the importance and seriousness of this match in terms of security, but also further emphasizes the obligation of all stakeholders to put sport first.
The football audience still remembers that the previous match between these national teams in Belgrade, in October 2014, was interrupted due to serious incidents, which left profound consequences for the national team and Serbian football – both in terms of results and financially.
This is why we have a special responsibility to ensure that this scenario does not repeat itself, but to show that Serbia can and should host a major sporting event in accordance with the highest international standards.
The Football Federation of Serbia, in cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, UEFA, FIFA and all other competent authorities, is taking all necessary measures to ensure that the match takes place in a fair atmosphere, without incidents and in the spirit of sportsmanship.
