Serie A has been one of the most important destinations for Albanian footballers for years, but the presence of red and black legionnaires in the Italian football elite has been significantly reduced. At the end of this season, two of Albania's most representative names in Italy, Berat Gjimshiti and Elseid Hysaj, could also bid farewell to the Italian championship.
The captain and vice-captain of the Albanian National Team are in the final year of their contracts with their respective clubs, Atalanta and Lazio, while their futures still remain unclear.
Berat Gjimshiti's situation appears more open. The red and black defender is waiting for a renewal offer from Atalanta and his desire is to continue his career in Bergamo. However, the Italian club is expected to enter a phase of major changes for the new season, with several important departures expected in the transfer market, even without a transfer fee.
Gjimshiti's experience and consistency make him a sought-after profile by several other Serie A teams, who see him as a favorable opportunity in the market. If a renewal agreement with Atalanta is not reached, the Albanian defender could also consider more economically advantageous offers outside Italy.
Meanwhile, Elseid Hysaj's situation seems clearer. The full-back is expected to leave Lazio at the end of the season, thus ending his five-year adventure in the Italian capital.
During his time with Lazio, Hysaj played 131 matches in all competitions, scored 2 goals and provided 4 assists, while accumulating over 8,000 minutes of active play. Now, the Albanian defender is looking for a new destination to continue his career.
