The home of Benjamin Pavard, the French footballer who played this season with Olympique de Marseille, was the target of an attempted robbery, Le Parisien learns from a police source. The incident occurred late on Wednesday, May 20, in the city of Marseille. According to information, the world champion's wife notified the emergency services. She was at home and surprised five people who had entered the yard of the apartment. They then left in a Mercedes-type vehicle.
According to the same sources, the suspects are between 25 and 26 years old and are known negatively by the police services. These individuals, residing in the Île-de-France region, are suspected of having crossed France to commit this criminal offense.
A vehicle matching the description given and with five people on board was subsequently stopped by police. The suspects were arrested and taken into custody for questioning.
Coach Habib Beye victim of a robbery in early April
Benjamin Pavard announced his departure from Marseille earlier this week. "I am leaving with a lot of emotions, with lessons learned and with the memory of a dressing room that stayed together until the end," declared the right-back, who is on loan at OM from Inter Milan.
"Wearing this shirt will remain a strong experience in my career and life. I have always tried to give my best on the pitch and represent this club with respect and dedication," the world champion wrote on Instagram. "I wish OM all the best in the future."
This is not the first time an Olympique de Marseille figure has been involved in a robbery attempt. In April, the club's coach Habib Beye was also the victim of a robbery, L'Équipe reported.
"Honestly, when I was at Marseille, I felt fear in some players," Valentin Rongier, who was part of the club from 2019 to 2025, said a few days later. "I know that as a footballer you are targeted. This doesn't just happen in Marseille, maybe there more than elsewhere, but I have been robbed three times in six years," he declared in an interview with Média Carré, quoted by our colleagues at RMC Sport.
