Ilkai Gyndogan says goodbye to Germany, after the experience in "EURO 2024".
The match against De La Fuentes' Spain, which then became European champions, was the last match with the German representative for the Barcelona midfielder.
Gyndogan greets Germany:
" After a few weeks of reflection, I have made the decision that it is time to end my international career. I look back with great pride on 82 international caps, a number I could never have imagined when I made my debut for the first team in 2011.
“The best moment was definitely the great honor of being able to lead the team as captain at the European Championships at home last summer!
"After all these years we finally managed to make our nation proud again and the fact that I was able to play a role in all of this makes me very happy."
The busy calendar, as well as the age that is no longer young, led Gyndogan to this decision:
"But even before the tournament I felt a fatigue in my body and in my head and this made me think: the matches at the club and national level are not decreasing.
"I will definitely continue to be a fan of this national team and I sincerely hope that the growth continues (there is nothing wrong with being among the title favorites at the 2026 World Cup). We have a fantastic coach, a really strong one and a great team spirit ".
