French football legend Thierry Henry has commented on Real Madrid's elimination from the Champions League, stressing that Bayern Munich deserved to reach the semi-finals. He praised the Spanish team's courage, but highlighted the lack of consistency in their play.
"Real thought they were the untouchable kings of comebacks, but Bayern gave them a brutal dose of their own medicine ," Henry initially told CBS.
According to him, a key moment in the match was Eduardo Camavinga's second yellow card, which changed the course of the game in Bayern's favor.
"What a match. You see Real completely destroying them in the first half with Guler and Mbappe and everyone at home thinks the comeback is a done deal.
"Then Bayern came out in the second half, used more players and turned the pitch into a centrifuge. They were completely suffocated. He is a special player ," said Henry.
The former Arsenal and Juventus striker also commented on the possible reactions of Real Madrid fans, emphasizing that the responsibility also falls on the players.
"Madrid fans will now fill social media and cry for the referee. They will say that Camavinga's second yellow card was shameful, too soft for a Champions League quarter-final and that the referees were against them. But you have to understand one thing, when you play away from home at the Allianz Arena, you can't give the referee even the slightest reason to make a decision.
