What was expected to be a turning point in the whirlwind of scandals that has engulfed the Polish national team after the Qatar World Cup, did not happen. Sunday night's match at "Air Albania" showed once again that Poland has problems, many problems.
Poland returned to "Air Albania" with the aim of recalling that match won 1-0 in 2021 for the account of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
However, the situation was completely different.
The Reds won 2-0 and now see themselves at the top of Group E. While the Poles hope to reach at least third place and the playoffs. This, although there are still three matches to be played until the end of the qualifiers and anything can happen in football.
Bartek Kubiak, journalist of the Polish sports daily "Sport.pl" spoke in an interview to Albanian Post (AP) about what is happening and expected to happen with the Polish football team.
For Kubiak, the situation in the Polish camp is the "worst period" in the history of this national team. It also outlines the scandals that have had a negative impact on bringing Poland to the state we see today.
"This is the worst period in history for the Polish national team," says Kubiak. "It started with the World Cup in Qatar and the bonuses promised to the players by the prime minister. Polish society was outraged.
"And later there were other scandals, with Robert Lewandowski's bodyguard, with the match against Germany that (Fernando) Santos didn't want to play, and with the drunk PZPN (Polish football federation) sports activists and a convicted of corruption, who returned with the Polish national team on the same plane from Chisinau in June".
"And recently, Lewandowski's interview in which he criticized all the players", the Polish journalist continues.
The latter, in fact, was like a push that the Polish captain and best player gave to a team that was on the edge of the precipice. Lewandowski accused the Polish national team of "lack of personality".
