Inter have made another false step in Serie A, drawing 1-1 at home to Atalanta in the match of the 29th week, held at the “San Siro” stadium. This result comes just a few days after the 1-0 loss in the derby against Milan.
The Blues took the lead in the 26th minute. After a well-constructed move and combinations between Dumfries, Thuram and Barella, it was the latter who provided an assist for Francesco Pio Esposito. The striker scored with a beautiful left-footed shot from inside the area, sending the ball into the net.
The first half ended with a score of 1-0 in favor of Inter. At the beginning of the second half, the home team created several good scoring chances, especially with Dumfries and Thuram, but they failed to convert them. In the 61st minute, Thuram had another good opportunity to double the score, but Atalanta goalkeeper Marko Karnezeki reacted decisively.
Atalanta equalised in the 82nd minute through Nikola Krstovic, who came off the bench in the second half. Sulemana's shot was initially saved by goalkeeper Jann Somer, but Krstovic took advantage of the rebound and headed it into the net. The incident was also reviewed by VAR for a possible foul, but the goal was confirmed as legal.
Referee Gianluca Magnanimello's decision sparked protests from the Inter bench. Coach Christian Kivu was sent off after receiving two yellow cards in a matter of minutes for protesting and will miss the next match, which he will watch from the stands.
The tension continued in the 87th minute, when Inter players appealed for a penalty for a foul on Davide Fratezi inside the area. However, the referee and the VAR system decided that play should continue.
The score remained unchanged until the end, with the match ending 1-1. Inter continues to lead the standings with 68 points, while the eight-point gap with Milan could be narrowed if the Rossoneri win away to Lazio. Atalanta, on the other hand, holds seventh place with 47 points.
