
World football has received the sad news today of the passing of former Portuguese footballer Jorge Costa, currently the technical director of the Porto club. He passed away prematurely at the age of 53 after suffering a heart attack today.
Costa, who was Porto's legendary captain during the years when they won everything in Portugal and Europe under Jose Mourinho, had recently returned to his beloved club to take up the position of technical director. He was giving an interview this morning when he felt unwell and collapsed. Costa was assisted by club doctors who also intervened with a defibrillator until an ambulance arrived to take him to hospital.
But then the news broke that despite efforts to keep him alive, he had not succeeded and the tragic news of his untimely farewell was announced. Jorge Costa had also suffered a collapse in 2022, but at that time he had managed to survive the heart attack.
