Albanian cycling in mourning, Besim Balla passes away

Albanian cycling in mourning. One of the cycling icons in Albania, Besim Balla, passed away today, the Albanian Cycling Federation announced.

Balla completed his higher education as a Mechanical Engineer, but his true passion was sports.

As a former athlete of the Partizani cycling team, he dedicated his life to preparing new generations and developing this noble sport. From 1986 to 2001, he served with dedication as coach of the Albanian National Cycling Team, leaving an indelible mark on the history of this sport.

During the years 1986–1990, he was a State Trainer at the Physical Education Committee, at the Methodological Center for the Preparation of National Teams. From 1990 to 2001, he was a professional coach of the “17 Nëntori” cycling team, leading the athletes to success and numerous trophies.

In the period 1991–1994, as coach of the Sportklub Tirana team, Balla led the team to the title of National Champion of Albania, both at the individual and team level. In 1997, he proudly represented Albania as coach of the national team at the Mediterranean Games in Bari, while during the years 1994–1999, under his leadership, the Tirana team was declared the winner of several cycling tours in the country and abroad.

In 2001, he led the Tirana team to another Albanian National Championship title, concluding a brilliant career, filled with achievements, dedication and unconditional love for the sport. With the passing of Besim Balla, Albania loses one of the emblems of cycling, a respected figure who contributed not only to the national arena, but also to the international one. Family and relatives lost an exemplary husband and parent, while friends and colleagues lost a model, dedicated, honest and loving man. Farewell Besim Balla. You will always remain in our memory and hearts, as a great man and a rare professional. We will remember you with honor and respect, just as you honored us with your life and work.

"Sincere condolences to the family and all relatives," Skënder Anxhaku, President of the Albanian Cycling Federation, wrote on the social network Facebook.
