Inter's dream of a treble this season was shattered on Wednesday evening. A heavy 3-0 defeat at San Siro against Milan in the semi-finals of the Italian Cup definitively ended the Blues' journey towards the treble.
The black and blue team still remains strongly in the race for the "scudetto" and the Champions League, with the Club World Cup on the horizon, but Inzaghi especially wanted the Coppa Italia.
At the end of the match, after Conceicao's team's third goal, scored by Reijnders, cameras caught the black-and-blue coach exploding at the fourth referee, Aureliano.
Inzaghi was furious with the decision to award extra time in a match that was practically a draw. The angry coach yells at Aureliano: "I don't want extra time, do you hear?! Don't take me for a fool, do you hear?! Don't make fun of me! I don't want it! I don't want it!"
One of his assistants intervened to calm him down, and the fourth official himself tried to defuse the situation. The match ended without extra time, but before leaving for the locker room and leaving the defeat behind, Inzaghi went to argue with the main referee Doveri, who punished him with a yellow card. The video of the outburst against Aureliano quickly spread online and went “viral” in a few hours.
Inter now has all their attention on the postponed match against Ranieri's Roma at the San Siro on Sunday and then, on Wednesday, they face a crucial away match against Barcelona, valid for the first semi-final of the Champions League.
