
African football is in mourning after the passing of renowned former striker, Tendai Ndoro, at the age of 40. He was found dead in his apartment in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The sad news was confirmed by his former club, Orlando Pirates, with an official statement: "We are deeply saddened by the loss of our former striker Tendai Ndoro. The club expresses its deepest condolences to his family, friends and loved ones at this difficult time."
Fans have shared dozens of touching messages on social media.
One of them wrote: “Rest in peace, brother.”
Another added: "Thanks for the memories. Condolences to the family. Until we meet again."
As one fan recalled his unforgettable goal against Kaizer Chiefs: “I will never forget that gem… RIP legend Ndoro.”
Ndoro was part of the Zimbabwe national team from 2013–2017, where he played 14 matches and scored five goals, one of them at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations against Tunisia.
He first rose to prominence with the Chicken Inn club in Zimbabwe, before moving to the South African Premier League in 2013.
With the Black Aces he scored 14 goals, while with Orlando Pirates he made history by scoring 23 goals in two seasons and was declared the second best scorer of the championship in the 2016/17 season.
His career then continued with a spell in Saudi Arabia with Al-Faisaly, before returning to South Africa with Ajax Cape Town and Highlands Park. The player retired from playing football in 2020 with Al-Orouba club in Oman.
The cause of Ndoro's death has not yet been made public, but it is reported that the former footballer had been having health problems recently.
