
Dieter Herzog, former world champion with Germany in 1974, has passed away. The news was announced by the Bundesliga club, Bayer Leverkusen, where the footballer played for 7 years.
"Bayer mourns the loss of Dieter Herzog. The 1974 World Champion, who played for Leverkusen for seven years, died this week at the age of 79," Leverkusen said in a statement.

Herzog represented Germany five times, appearing in two matches at the 1974 World Cup, which his team won. He also played in matches against Yugoslavia and Sweden.
The German also made over 250 Bundesliga appearances, scoring 46 goals for Leverkusen and Fortuna Düsseldorf. After his playing career, Herzog worked as a scout for Leverkusen.
