After dishing out a record fourteen yellow cards during the Bournemouth-Chelsea match, referee Anthony Taylor will not officiate any Premier League games this weekend.
The British referee, who had also awarded a penalty missed by Evanilson for Bournemouth, was criticized after the match. Bournemouth coach Andoni Iraola said:
" I will not talk about the referee. I've talked about it and it doesn't work, so I decide to try the opposite and see what happens ."
Enzo Mareska had tried to minimize it: "I complained about a foul against Wesli Fofana, which for me was quite obvious, but it can happen. Eight yellow cards, between duels and collisions, can occur. It can happen."
The previous record for cards in a single Premier League game was 12, at Wolverhampton v Newcastle in 2010 and Chelsea v Tottenham in 2016.
Taylor will be the fourth official on Saturday 21 September in the Southampton-Ipswich match.
