An epochal change is on the horizon. The historic and legendary stadium of the city of Milan, "San Siro", home to two of the biggest clubs on the continent and Milan, will be demolished to build a new, modern facility that will be available to host the final of the 2032 European Championship.
The Milan Municipal Council approved last night by a majority vote (24 votes in favor) the sale of the San Siro stadium for 197 million euros, a transfer of ownership that will allow Inter and Milan to create a new and modern facility. The sale must be completed within 40 days, before November 10, to avoid legal obstacles that could arise due to the possible cultural status of the stadium.
The famous architects Lord Norman Foster and David Manica will carry out the project for the new stadium of Inter and Milan in case of approval of the decision for the sale of the “San Siro” plant by the Milan municipal council. The clubs foresee the demolition of about 90% of the current structure, with a part of the second ring that will necessarily not be touched, since from November 10 the protection of the Soprintendenza will come into force, since it is an asset of historical value.
The joint statement from Inter and Milan a few days ago also revealed some details about the alleged stadium:
“ The new facility, inserted in an urban regeneration project of approximately 281 thousand m², in a sign of innovation and sustainability, will have a capacity of 71,500 seats and will offer an incomparable atmosphere, being structured on two large rings with a slope studied to guarantee optimal visibility for spectators from each sector. It will also comply with the highest accessibility criteria, ensuring an offer, dedicated experiences for all fans and availability of sectors at affordable prices ”.
In the area near the new San Siro stadium, there will also be hotels. According to Corriere della Sera, they will be four-star with 350 rooms each, parking spaces spread over 15,000 m² and offices. There will also be shops, restaurants and the Inter and Milan museum with a projected ticket price of 38 euros and an estimated 450,000 visitors per year.
