The sky over Castel Volturno has never been so gloomy and this time, the problem goes beyond the field of play. What is shaking the foundations of the Napoli project is the deterioration of the relationship between coach Antonio Conte and president Aurelio De Laurentiis.
What initially appeared as a strong collaboration to return the team to the top of Italian football, now risks ending in a premature and sensational separation.
According to the daily "Il Mattino", the clash began during De Laurentiis' stay in the United States. The president's statements, made in the context of his engagements in business and cinematography, were not well received by Conte.
In particular, the coach has been annoyed by references to the future of the Napoli bench and the possibility of him taking over the Italian national team. De Laurentiis said: " Antonio is serious, he would never abandon me at the last minute ."
These words are interpreted as an attempt to calm the situation, but also as a signal of uncertainty about a possible departure.
It is reported that the tension is not one-sided. De Laurentiis also has reservations about Conte, particularly over some of the technical management choices and the coach's closed-minded attitude towards the club's internal dynamics.
The president is believed to have given the coach complete freedom of action and a very lucrative contract, but expectations have not been met at the level of relationship and shared perspective.
The possibility of a separation at the end of the season is considered real. Conte is known for his strong stances and lack of compromise: if he feels a lack of trust or interference in his powers, he does not hesitate to leave, as has happened before with Juventus and Inter.
Napoli are currently considering alternative scenarios. In the event of a split, names such as Vincenzo Italiano, Enzo MaresKa or Gian Piero Gasperini are mentioned as potential candidates. Meanwhile, the return of Maurizio Sarri has been described by the latter himself as "fantasy football".
Communication between the parties is expected in the coming hours, possibly via a phone call, to clarify the situation. However, sources suggest that the relationship has cooled significantly.
As De Laurentiis has previously stated, a team is like a “family.” But when the “parents” don’t communicate, the consequences become inevitable. In Napoli, silence seems to speak louder than any public statement.
