Shkëndija Tetovo was narrowly defeated 1-0 by Qarabag of Azerbaijan in the first leg of the third qualifying round of the Champions League, held at the Tetovo city stadium. The only goal of the match was scored by Yunis Bayramov from the penalty spot in the 18th minute, giving the Azerbaijani team the advantage.
In the first half, Qarabag dominated the game and managed to create several chances, but the early goal from the penalty spot proved decisive. Shkëndija, led by coach Jeton Beqiri, tried to react in the second half, creating several chances to equalize the score. However, the home team failed to capitalize on their opportunities, with a special moment in the final minutes when Besart Ibraimi wasted a golden opportunity to set the balance.
Despite the defeat, Shkëndija showed fighting spirit and remains hopeful for the return match, which will take place next week in Baku. The Tetovo team will need an upset to advance to the next stage of the most prestigious European competition.
