After 12 years, Kukësi Football Club will no longer be financed by the Gjici family. So far it has been reported about a sale of 100% of the shares, but the club has been donated for an indefinite period to the businessman Atilio Biba. In a press conference organized today, the presentation of the new staff that will manage the northeastern club, which has changed ownership by passing to the management of a group of foreign investors, was made.
Ilir Spahiu was selected as coach, while Sebino Plaku was selected as assistant coach.
Erinaldo Gjici, the son of former president Safet Gjici, spoke to the media explaining that a new stage begins for the club with the withdrawal of his family from management. Then, it was the turn of the Latvian sports director, Nikita Kornejevs, who explained how Kukes of the First Category will be structured, which aims to return to the Superior.
" First of all, I would like to say that I am very happy to be here in Albania, very proud and honored to be part of a club with so much history. I have come to do a great work and we will do it step by step. Our job as a club is to return the joy of football to the city of Kukës and to return the club of Kukës where it belongs, in Superiore. I truly believe it can be achieved. In my career I have achieved such success, in my native Latvia, I had the club Tukums 2000 which was in great difficulties.
In the first season we took the team to the Second Division and promoted it to the Premier League and the club is still playing there. Even at Kukësi we have a trained staff who know well what we have to do, are ready for success and are working with great love for this club. We will continue the path left by the previous president and hope to bring even more light to the Kukës club.
I think I know Albanian football well, because I have been preparing for this. I have studied the Albanian championship that a sports director should see, scout the players, get to know young footballers, so I think I know Albanian football quite well. I'm not perfect, but still the level of knowledge on my part I think is satisfactory.
A friend and partner of mine, with whom I have worked for a long period of time, invited me here. He invited me, he knew my previous career, experience and what I have managed before. For me it is a challenge. From what I see, I like the place. We will do everything we can to achieve the objectives.
The new team will be a mix of players. At the beginning we will focus on the youth being in the First Category, as we want to prepare them to have a base for the next edition. But I will not say that we will have only young people or only experienced ones, it will be a mix, but a little more with young people ", said Kornejevs in his presentation.
After falling from the elite last year, the northeastern club has started intensive preparations for the creation of the team almost from scratch. Kukësi will play the opening match of the First Category with Erzen as host on August 24.
