In Serbia, banners against Albanians continue to be displayed, with UEFA expected to take measures against the club and the fans of Crvena Zvezda. In the friendly that the Serbs won 5-0 against Fiorentina in Belgrade, the local fans could not leave without opening a banner with the inscription: "When the army returns to Kosovo", accompanied by a choreography where a tank was also unveiled.
The unborn of the Balkans, the Serbian ultras leave no occasion without showing their sick nationalist ideas. Something like that happened at minute 12 and second 44, linking it to Resolution 1244 of the UN Security Council.
Resolution 1244 of the Security Council was adopted on June 10, 1999, after the agreement on the withdrawal of Serbian troops from Kosovo. This resolution defines the political status of Kosovo as a protectorate of the UN and gives the administration of Kosovo to this international organization. According to this resolution, the UN is responsible for the civil administration, while NATO is responsible for security in Kosovo.
This choreography has also brought the reaction of the Football Federation of Kosovo, which, through a press statement, has asked UEFA to have an investigation and the club and the fans to receive an exemplary punishment.
The post of the Kosovo Football Federation:
July 27, 2023 - The Kosovo Football Federation strongly condemns and at the same time expresses its anger and concern regarding the scandalous, warmongering choreography of the fans of the Serbian club, Crvena Zvezda, in the football match against Fiorentina in Belgrade.
The presentation of a tank as a choreographer in the stands with the symbolism against Kosovo is an unacceptable and unparalleled act for sports, but also for harmony and peace between countries and peoples in our region, especially in the period of tensions between the two countries.
This publicly expressed act, accompanied by provocative slogans, proves that the opinion in Serbia and the authorities there have not changed at all from the aggressive approach and at the same time it is an open provocation towards the sport of football and the Republic of Kosovo.
This case makes us understand that the bodies of UEFA and FIFA must urgently take stricter measures against the violation of the principles and basic values of the football game. We hope and trust that our complaint and response will be taken seriously and those who incite hatred through football will be punished.
FFK will continue to promote the true values of football, as it is aware that a safe and respectful environment in stadiums is essential to experience the excitement of football in a positive way.
