Vedat Muriqi is close to returning to Turkish football, having reached an agreement with Fenerbahçe. The Kosovo striker will end his adventure in Spain with Mallorca, while the clubs have also finalized the details of the transfer.
The deal, which is reportedly worth 15 million euros, represents a significant gain for Mallorca, who are in need of additional income following their relegation from the Spanish top flight, with the aim of rebuilding their squad for next season.
However, Mallorca is not the only one benefiting from this transfer. Lazio, Muriqi's former club, had retained the right to benefit from 45 percent of the value of a future sale of the player in 2022. Thanks to this clause, the Italian club is expected to collect around 7 million euros from the striker's transfer to Fenerbahçe.
Retaining percentages from future sales has become a common practice in modern football, providing clubs with ongoing financial benefits even after a player leaves.
In contrast to this strategy that proved profitable for Lazio, Teuta of Durrës is considered one of the most significant cases of a missed opportunity in Albanian football.
During the period when Muriqi was part of the Durrës team, the club not only failed to fully appreciate his potential, but also loaned him to Besa. Then, after only one season of cooperation, Teuta terminated the agreement with the footballer and gave him a document through which he renounced any possible financial benefits in the future.
As a result, the Durrës club has never benefited from Muriqi's subsequent transfers, despite the fact that over 50 million euros have been invested in transfers from one club to another during his career.
The case of Vedat Muriqi remains a clear example of the importance of economic rights management and compensation mechanisms in football, where a decision made years ago can bring significant profits or losses in the future.
