The World Cup, and especially the opening match, is drawing the attention of the entire world, including those who are not regular sports fans. It is precisely at this moment that the teachers' union in Mexico has chosen to raise its voice against low wages, causing tension and concern just before the start of the biggest football tournament.
On Tuesday afternoon, thousands of protesters marched through the streets of Mexico City with the aim of approaching the Azteca stadium, where the opening match of the World Cup between Mexico and South Africa will take place on June 11.
To avoid escalating the situation, the police placed barriers and concrete blocks on several road axes, preventing protesters from approaching the sports facility.
Currently, representatives of the protesters and the authorities are in negotiations to find a solution, but concerns remain high that the situation could create problems and chaos on the day of the opening match of the World Cup.
