The legend of the Olympic Games becomes the new owner of the English club, the winner of 23 gold medals buys the team for 170 million pounds

Leeds will have a new owner, the American swimming legend Michael Phelps. They have become the latest club to be sold for £170m in the style of Wrexham, the club owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney since 2020, after buying it for £2m.

But in addition to Phelps, who is the most decorated Olympic athlete in history (winning 23 gold medals and setting 39 world records during his incredible career before retiring after the 2016 Rio Olympics), Leeds will have co-owners and other famous American sports figures, including golfer Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas.

Phelps' net worth is estimated at 76 million pounds. They are part of the company "49 Enterprises", which is estimated by the magazine "Forbes" with a fortune of 4.79 billion pounds in total, being the 11th richest sports company in the world.

They previously held a 44 percent stake in Leeds United, but have now bought the entire stake and will take over from Andrea Radrizani.
