"They kept $9,250 from me for World Cup tickets," American fan accuses

A New York woman is accusing FIFA of owing her more than $9,000 after an attempt to purchase tickets for the 2026 World Cup ended in a misdirected payment and promises of a refund that were not kept, according to US media reports.

The incident began in October 2025, when Kristina Ane attempted to purchase just two tickets to the competition, worth $3,700. However, she was faced with an unpleasant surprise: her credit card was charged $9,250, corresponding to five tickets, not two as she had requested.

Immediately after the unexpected payment, Kristina contacted FIFA, sending clear evidence of the error. Due to the lack of response, she also contacted her bank, Chase Bank, but to no avail. Only a week later did FIFA respond, offering a solution that the complainant described as absurd.

I was told they could refund me for three of the five tickets ,” Kristina explained, citing an email from the organization. “ But to do that, I had to submit a new request for two more tickets and only then would they refund me for five .” The idea of buying a total of seven tickets to get the refund was immediately rejected.

The situation was further exacerbated by the fact that the debited tickets did not appear at all in her FIFA account, meaning she could not use them, even if she decided to keep them. Efforts to find a solution with FIFA and Chase Bank continued.

Later, a FIFA manager informed her that the refund had been processed on December 3, 2025, but the money never arrived in her account. Despite waiting until Christmas, the refund did not materialize and the case was closed. In a later update, Kristina revealed that the bank had told her that there was nothing they could do, while FIFA contacted her twice again promising payment, which has yet to happen.

Outraged, she declared: “ I don’t understand how they feel comfortable stealing $9,250 from someone, when they are a multi-billion dollar company .” Meanwhile, the case has sparked numerous reactions on social media, with calls for a boycott of the World Cup and comments openly talking about a possible lawsuit against FIFA.
