The ordeal of Lucas Paquet is over. The Brazilian midfielder of West Ham has been declared innocent after almost two years of investigation into allegations against him of fixing matches for betting purposes.
More specifically, Paquet was accused of being deliberately punished with a yellow card to aid betting, after a very high number of bets on such events were found in the matches he played in English football, located in the town where he was born in Brazil.
The English Football Association demanded the Brazilian player be banned for life, a request that practically ruined his career, after Manchester City, who were ready to buy him for 90 million euros, withdrew from the race for him. But after two years of investigation, an independent commission has declared Paquet innocent of all charges, as confirmed today by the West Ham club, which had helped him in every way, even bringing one of the best criminal lawyers in circulation to face these charges.
" West Ham United can confirm that an Independent Regulatory Commission has cleared Lukas Paketa of the charges. The club has stood by Lukas since the beginning of a long and difficult process ," the English club wrote, among other things.
