Dreams come true if you work hard. This is best shown by the path of 23-year-old Marco Pasalic, who may be at the top of Croatia's attack in "EURO 2024", since coach Zlatko Dalic has made him part of the preliminary list.
What impresses you about Pasalic's journey is that in 2017, he was a simple construction worker in Karlsruhe, with the dream of becoming a great footballer.
The Rijeka winger, born in Karlsruhe, Germany, has excelled this season in the Croatian Championship and is already living the dream.
He moved to Rijeka in the summer of 2023 from the second team of Borussia Dortmund, having previously been part of Hoffeneihm, Karlstruhe and the second team of Stuttgart.
Pasalic told the Croatian media the story of his life. He says that when he finished high school, he didn't want to go to university, even though his father advised him to go to school. In such conditions, at the age of 17 he was forced to work in construction.
" I started in 2017. My father enrolled me in the faculty after high school, but I didn't want to finish it because of football. He told me that if I didn't go to school, I should go work in construction. Every morning at 8 o'clock, me, my brother and two workers would meet. The worst thing for me was working when it was winter and it was 35 degrees outside. After six or seven months, I started to get used to it. In the end, it's about having bread at home. When I didn't do it right, they punched me in the nose. I have never crossed paths with construction. If I were in Germany now and my brother needed help, I would help him ," the 23-year-old confessed.
So far, he has appeared on the field four times with Croatia's jersey, while he made his debut on November 18 in the victory over Latvia in the "EURO 2024" qualifiers.
" At around 12 o'clock, the director of Rijeka, Darko Raic-Sudar, called me. He told me that coach Dalic was calling me to a meeting, I didn't understand anything. I told him not to joke and he replied that I was indeed invited. I can't describe the trip to Zagreb, I felt indescribably. My life revolved around the Croatian national team and my dream of being invited came true. I was shocked when I saw Luka Modric, my chin was shaking ," described Pasalic.
