One less rival for Lara Koltur, the Swiss ski champion undergoes knee surgery

The 2025-2026 ski season has come to an early end for Swiss champion Lara Gut Behrami. The Swiss Ski Federation announced that the 34-year-old has suffered a serious injury to her left knee after an incident during training in the United States.

The examinations confirmed the diagnosis; knee ligament damage for the Olympic champion in Super G, which means that Lara Gut Behrami says goodbye to the Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina next year and that our Lara Kolturi will have one less rival. However, Lara Gut Behrami, who had originally planned to end her career after this season, is now leaving everything open and for the time being will focus on the surgical intervention that she will undergo next week and then on her rehabilitation.

' I had imagined the following months differently and I couldn't wait for the rest of the ski season to start,' Lara Gut Berhami declared. 'We have recently seen dramatic events in our sport, fatal accidents involving young athletes. I believe that a knee injury, no matter how complicated it may be, cannot be considered a tragedy. My goal is to fully recover from this injury and return to my full level of performance. Only then will I know what the future holds for me .'

Meanwhile, the coach of the Swiss women's ski team, Beat Schuor, confirmed that the 2026 Winter Olympics in her second homeland, Italy, were Lara Gut Behrami's last big goal and that this serious injury is even more bittersweet. He wished the skier the best possible surgical intervention and rehabilitation process, adding that her absence in Milano Cortina is a heavy blow to the Swiss ski team.
