Verstappen eliminated in Q2, while McLaren partially dominates the session
Lando Norris suffered reliability issues on both days of action, losing valuable time and falling three tenths behind teammate Oscar Piastri. However, he would have secured fourth place had Charles Leclerc not improved his time at the end of Q3 by just four thousandths of a second.
Ferrari looked very competitive in Q2, but suffered a sudden dip in performance in the final qualifying session. Only Leclerc's impressive late lap prevented McLaren from completely dominating the second row of the grid. Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton was around a tenth and a half behind Leclerc and Norris.

The biggest surprise of the session was the elimination of Max Verstappen in Q2. The Dutch driver finished 11th, after Arvid Lindblad in the RB set a brilliant lap in his final attempt. At the same time, Isack Hadjar in the other Red Bull RB22 managed to qualify in the top ten. Verstappen stated that in Q2 his car “completely lost grip and was impossible to drive”.
