December 12th of last year proved to be an unlucky day for Lecce's Albanian midfielder, Medon Berisha. In the Lecce-Pisa match, the 22-year-old lasted only 11 minutes on the pitch before suffering a serious injury that forced him to be taken off on a stretcher.
After medical examinations, it was confirmed that Berisha had suffered a second-degree rupture of the rectus femoris muscle in his right thigh. Initially, an absence of around five weeks was predicted, but more than two months have passed and the recovery has not made any noticeable progress.
Currently, the midfielder has started individual training, while there is no exact date for his return to the field. In 13 matches played this season with Lecce, Berisha has scored 2 goals and provided 3 assists, being one of the team's protagonists.
The 22-year-old's prolonged recovery is also a concern for the Albanian national team. For coach Silvinjo, the lack of optimal form or the inability to have him available means one less alternative on the eve of the challenge against Poland in the "Play-Off" phase of the World Cup. It remains to be seen whether Berisha will be able to recover in time for this important match.
