Among the hundreds of comments and GIF images of the Portuguese star's celebrations, there was also advice for Neves to pass the ball to Cristiano Ronaldo more often during matches.
However, amidst the criticism, there were also voices of support for the midfielder. PSG fans in particular tried to defend their player, urging him not to be swayed by the negative comments.
" Joao, shut up these critics, win the Cup and show that CR7 should sit on the bench ," was one of the comments in his support.
Despite the controversy that has accompanied Portugal's start to the tournament, Roberto Martinez's team will have the opportunity to return to positive results in their next match. On Tuesday, the Portuguese face Uzbekistan, in a match where mistakes are not allowed if they are to quell the debate and restore calm to their camp.
