The French legend answers the eternal Pele or Maradona dilemma and passionately expresses his opinion in favor of Diego, explaining why he considers him unique.
Pele or Maradona? Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo? These questions are always discussed in football fan circles around the world and a legend of the French national team and Manchester United, Eric Cantona, has the answer: Diego Maradona!
The famous Frenchman was asked, among other things, about this issue in a radio interview in Paris and did not think about it at all, even giving the explanation: " Some people are talking about Messi or Ronaldo now, but for me Maradona was the best of all and he surpassed Pele ," Cantona emphasized and explained:
" Some people say Pele was the best of all time, but not for me. Maradona is the best of all time. Diego practically won the World Cup single-handedly in 1986, then they fought him, he lost in 1990 and then in the 1994 World Cup he could have won it again if he hadn't been punished.
"The big difference between him and Pele was that Maradona didn't have great players around him, of comparable quality. He had to carry the whole team on his back. If you took Maradona away from those Argentina teams, they wouldn't have won the World Cup, unlike Brazil, who would have won it even without Pele ."
