There are many athletes who cannot stay away from the problems that have affected the planet and that have nothing to do with their sporting activities. This is the case of Ilya Zabarny, the PSG center-back who has always been involved in the defense of his country, Ukraine, since the moment Russia began its invasion on February 24, 2022.
The footballer often posts on Instagram Stories about Ukraine's war against the Russians. He constantly uses this social network to condemn the terrible crimes committed by Vladimir Putin, and his latest message was very clear and direct: ' Russia is a terrorist state .'
A post he made after Ukraine's victory over Iceland in the final match of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. A success that served Ukraine to qualify for the "playoff" where it will face Sweden on March 26 and if it wins, Ukraine awaits a final with the winner of the match between the Albanian National Team and Poland on March 31.
But Zabarnji, 23, is concerned about the dramatic situation his country is experiencing. Since he was in the ranks of Bournemouth, he made several statements to 'The Times': ' When the war started, I donated a lot of money to our army, to our people, to my friends who go to war to defend our country. We are simply helping families because they are alone. I have food, I have a house, security, others do not. I have to help, ' were Zabarnji's words.
Zabarny's phrase that Russia is a terrorist state is certainly not to the liking of his PSG teammate, Russian goalkeeper Matvey Safonov, although for him this is nothing new. A few months ago, the Ukrainian defender had called for the total isolation of Russian football from the rest of the world.
