Controversy erupts over match-fixing, goalkeeper's strange own goal in the last minute leads to team's elimination from the Cup (Video)

The Qatar Cup round of 16 match between Al Shahanija and Al Shamal went viral due to an unusual own goal by the visiting team's goalkeeper, Oumar Berri.

The score was 0-0 until the 92nd minute, when Al Shahanija midfielder Yusuf Raisi took a free kick from about 40 yards. The shot was strong, but towards the goal area, it looked like an easy ball for the goalkeeper to control.

However, the 39-year-old Berry initially deflected the ball high over his head and, as it was falling, attempted to clear it over the crossbar for a corner kick. Incredibly, he lost control of the ball, smashed it into the crossbar and then pushed it into his own net, scoring an own goal.

This was the only goal of the match, which led to Al Shamal's elimination from the Qatar Cup. After the match, a debate erupted on social media as to whether it was a serious technical error or a deliberate act that led to the team's defeat.
