A few years ago he was one of the most talked about names in Albania and Kosovo, as many hoped he would choose one of these two countries to continue his international career. But that is a thing of the past, as within a short time, Mërgim Berisha's situation has changed drastically.
The 27-year-old striker has left his glory years behind him, due to injuries and persistent physical problems that have left him out of shape to be at the highest levels. And the striker who said 'NO' to Albania and Kosovo by choosing to represent Germany to play two friendlies in 2023, will now continue the season in the German third division.
German media have reported that the coach has removed him from the ranks of Hoffenheim's first team, to end up in the third category with the reserve team. There he is expected to receive minutes, in the hope of convincing someone to buy his card in the January transfer window, as there is no longer a place in the first team for the player who was bought by Augsburg in 2023 for 14 million euros.
Thanks to the current situation, his return to Germany seems utopian and rumors have already resurfaced about Berisha's interest in wearing the jersey of one of the teams he rejected in the past since he has only played friendlies with the "Panzers".
