Romania is going through moments of anxiety over the health condition of national team coach Mircea Lucescu.
According to local media reports, the 80-year-old technician is hospitalized in a hospital in Bucharest, where he is being kept under constant medical observation, just a few months before the decisive World Cup play-off challenges.
Lucescu's health problems began during the Christmas period, after a severe flu that brought cardiac complications. The condition became more delicate due to his history with the heart and his advanced age. Initially, the coach underwent an intensive treatment at home, but the lack of significant improvement forced doctors to decide to hospitalize him for more specialized checks and treatment.
These physical difficulties have directly affected the Romanian national team's preparations. In about two months, Romania will face Turkey in the semi-final of the 2026 World Cup qualification play-off, a match of extraordinary importance. For the time being, Lucescu has been forced to withdraw from directly following the training camps and matches, delegating the duties to his technical staff.
However, the coach himself has tried to calm the sports public: " My temperature reached 39 degrees. I am in the hospital under the supervision of doctors and am undergoing the necessary therapy. I hope to recover as soon as possible and, according to the doctors, I am expected to be discharged from the hospital on Monday ." In Romania, there is hope that Lucescu will return to the bench as soon as possible, at a key moment for the national team's world dream.
