The Albanian national football team has two more matches, in the play-offs, before earning the right to play in the 2026 World Cup, which will take place from June 11 to July 19 in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
If it passes Poland in the play-off semi-finals and the winner of the Ukraine-Sweden match, the Albanian national football team will be placed in Group F of the 2026 World Cup finals. Rivals for our team will be (always if it passes) names like the Netherlands, Japan and Tunisia.
On the other hand, Kosovo, if it overcomes Slovakia in the play-off semi-finals and the winner of the Turkey-Romania match, will be placed in Group D of the World Cup, with rivals such as the USA, Paraguay and Australia.
After Friday's draw in Washington, the president of the Albanian Football Federation, Armand Duka, spoke from the US.
The head of the Albanian football government said that the national team's journey to reach the World Cup is difficult, but stressed that Albania will fight until the end to be part of the finals.
"The organization of the draw was fantastic. Only football can bring so many people together, important people in politics, very important people in the world of football, but also in other sports."
We are very happy to be part of this important event. It was the first day, the organization of the draw, and for this I want to thank the national team players and staff, who have made it possible for us to dream of being part of this World Cup.
Obviously our path is difficult. We have a very difficult match against Poland in Warsaw and if we get through that then we will play a final match against the winning team Sweden or Ukraine with the dream of being part of the World Cup.
"We have to keep fighting until the last minute and I have a lot of faith in our team, in their motivation and their desire to be part of the World Cup. I really hope that we can truly realize this dream, not only of the football team, not only of the Albanian Football Federation, but of all Albanians who love football so much," said Duka.
