Albania seeks the first gold medal at the Olympics, the Wrestling Federation files an appeal at the Court of Lausanne: Valiev was treated unfairly
Albania achieved the historic result with the first two medals at the "Paris 2024" Olympic Games. But this triumph could be even greater, if a great injustice was not done to Chermen Valiev, as the Albanian Wrestling Federation claims.
The latter has officially registered the appeal at CAS, the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne.
"ABC News" learns that the registration was made on August 11, just one day after Valiev was defeated in the quarterfinals of the freestyle for weight up to 75 kilograms by the wrestler from Uzbekistan, Jamalov Razambek.
He won 6-5 on points, thanks to a questionable decision by the match officials in the final seconds.
President Sahit Prizreni denounced this fact after the challenge, while the Albanian Wrestling Federation has made the official move by appealing the result to the CAS. According to the complaint, the Albanian wrestler Cermen Valiev was denied the right to qualify and to continue the competition for the gold medal.
This will be a tough battle at the highest level of sports justice, but still fair to claim something denied.
After the elimination in the quarter-finals, the Albanian wrestler competed again, winning the bronze medal, the first in the history of Albania.
The same success was repeated by another wrestler, Islam Dudaev in the weight up to 65 kilograms, making the appearance of the Albanian team at the Olympic Games, "Paris 2024" even more triumphant.
