World boxing legend George Foreman passes away

George Foreman, the two-time world heavyweight boxing champion and Olympic gold medalist who was a legendary rival of Muhammad Ali, died on Friday. He was 76.

The Instagram post reads: "Our hearts are broken. With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr., who passed away peacefully on March 21, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. A devout preacher, a devoted husband, a loving father and a proud grandfather. A humanitarian, an Olympian and two-time world heavyweight champion, he was deeply respected - a man of discipline, conviction and a defender of his heritage, fighting tirelessly to preserve his good name - for his family."

Known as one of the most powerful punchers in boxing history, Foreman destroyed one of the all-time greats, Joe Frazier, and went on to retain the heavyweight title twice before his iconic 1974 showdown with Ali in Kinshasha, Zaire - now known as the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Foreman also enjoyed great success as an entrepreneur, with his product "George Foreman Lean Mean Fat-Reducing Grilling Machine" debuting in 1994 and going on to sell more than 100 million units worldwide.

Boxing legend George Foreman named all of his sons George Foreman.

Foreman, who died on March 21, 2025, at the age of 76, had 12 children, five sons and seven daughters. And when it came time to name the boys, Foreman decided to name each of them after himself: George Edward Foreman.

On his website, Foreman answered the question: "Why did you name all your sons George?"

"I named all my boys George Edward Foreman, so they always have something in common. I tell them, 'If one of us goes up, we all go up. And if one of us goes down, we all go down together!'" he explained.

And then, addressing the people, he explained: "If you get hit as many times as I've been hit by Mohammad Ali, Joe Frazier, Ken Norton, Evander Holyfield - you won't remember many names."
