Fenerbahçe have intensified their efforts to secure the services of Granit Xhaka, joining the race launched by Sunderland, Inter and Milan to sign the Albanian midfielder, according to a report by journalist Ekrem Konur.
The Turkish giants have opened talks with the player's representatives, hoping to offer him a key role in their midfield plans. However, Bayer Leverkusen remain adamant in their position. Xhaka will not leave unless his €8m release clause is met in full.
The Bundesliga champions for the 2023-2024 season do not feel compelled to sell him, with the 31-year-old still having time left on his contract. Sunderland are considered the most serious candidate, with reports suggesting they are ready to meet Leverkusen's demands and offer Xhaka a leadership role in their return to the Premier League.
Meanwhile, both Milan clubs have taken the first steps in negotiations, but neither has taken the talks any further. With Neom SC officially pulling out of negotiations this week after Leverkusen demanded 13-15 million euros, the race for Xhaka's signature looks set to be left to European clubs.
The player remains open to a transfer, however, he is reportedly carefully considering every option, including the possibility of renegotiating terms and staying at Leverkusen.
