Central midfielder Besfort Zeneli has publicly reacted to the decision to represent Sweden on the international stage, despite previously being part of the Kosovo U-21 national team.
The 23-year-old footballer's decision has sparked discussions among Albanian fans, as he chose to continue his international career with the Scandinavian national team. Zeneli himself has explained the reasons that led him to this choice, emphasizing the strong connection to the country where he was born and raised.
" I was born and raised in Sweden. I love it with all my heart. The same goes for Kosovo. It's my parents' country, so it was a difficult decision ," he said.
According to Zeneli, the choice was not easy due to family ties to Kosovo. He revealed that his brother chose to play for the Kosovo national team, but his personal feelings were stronger for Sweden.
" My brother played for Kosovo, but I had a stronger feeling for Sweden ," the midfielder added.
In terms of his club career, Zeneli grew up in the academy of the Swedish club Elfsborg, where he later reached the first team. In the last winter transfer window, he decided to continue his career outside of Sweden, transferring to Belgium to the club Royal Union Saint-Julien.
The Albanian midfielder with a Swedish passport is considered one of the talents to emerge from Swedish football in recent years and is expected to continue his career development in the Belgian championship.
