Yasir Asani has left Iran, a country that has recently been involved in an armed conflict with the United States and Israel. Before leaving, the Albanian national football player also helped Stefan Ashkovski, a player for the North Macedonian national team, who was left alone after being abandoned by his club.
According to a report by "Sport1" in North Macedonia, the two footballers were met by journalists at Istanbul airport, where they recounted details of their departure from Iran and the difficulties experienced during the trip.
Asani revealed that until the last day, he and Ashkovski were separated, as the latter was about 15 hours away from his location. However, thanks to the help of drivers provided by the Iranian club Esteghlal, where Asani plays, they managed to reunite and organize their departure.
" We were separated until the last day. When I'm there, there are three drivers from the club who are available 24 hours a day for us ," Asani said.
On the other hand, Ashkovski described a long and difficult journey. He said he traveled for 15 hours from Rafsajan to Tehran, then to the border with Turkey and, from there, by plane to Istanbul.
" It was a big hassle to get through Iran. Yasir helped me, he had his own driver, I managed with him ," Ashkovski said.
The Macedonian footballer also described the tense situation on the ground, claiming that there were attacks in various areas and that he had been left without food and water for three days.
“ There were attacks everywhere, even near me, it had just started. I hadn’t eaten or drunk for three days, I was just looking for a way to leave the country. After their leader was killed, nothing worked, everything was shut down… everything was difficult, but everything ended well. Now I’m looking forward to going home, sleeping, getting some rest ,” he said.
Ashkovski has also stated that he was abandoned by his club, Mes Rafsajan, during the crisis. According to him, without Asani's help, the situation would have been even more difficult.
" When everything happened, I was abandoned, if it weren't for Yasir... There were other foreigners, but no one helped me. I was sitting on the street. The foreigners from the Persepolis team were passing by on a bus and I asked them if I could go with them, but they told me I couldn't. This will be a great experience for me in the future ," he said.
So far, there has been no official reaction from the respective clubs regarding the claims raised by the North Macedonian footballer.
