Two days after the crushing defeat in Albania (0-3), the coach of the Czech national team, Jaroslav Silhavi, appeared before the media in the press center of the "Doosan Arena" in Pilsen. Silhavi answered reporters' questions with icy calm on the eve of the match with the Faroe Islands.
Although he insisted on learning his fate at the head of the Czech national team after the defeat in Albania, he answered: "Our task is to prepare the team for the match in Pilsen".
Are you still reeling from the crushing defeat in Albania?
The atmosphere in the team is good. Of course, we all know within ourselves that the match in Albania did not go well, everything depends on this. We analyzed a few things during the brief assessment of the match. We all saw our mistakes on video, including the coaches. The players accepted it. We cannot cry in sadness for what happened. We have another game on Sunday. We are obliged to prepare the team in such a way that we can cope with it.
Could this be your last game as a coach of the national team?
You know what, I already said in the interviews after the match in Albania that our task is to prepare the team for the meeting in Pilsen. The time is so short that I don't know how it would have happened otherwise. The president of the Federation also said that the Executive Committee will meet next week, where the issue of the coach will be discussed. I don't want to deal with it now, me and my colleagues are thinking about Sunday's game.
Is it possible to detach yourself from the criticism that was directed at you and the team behind Albania?
Of course it's uncomfortable. At the beginning of qualifying, it seemed easy, that we could do it, but then it got messy and complicated for us. We stopped in Moldova, then at home with Albania. We needed at least one point against Albania in the second game, but the Albanians won and distanced themselves from us. We still have the fate of qualification in our hands. We need to win the game on Sunday and catch our breath for the remaining two group games.
If you win against the Faroe Islands, will you express to the Executive Committee that you wish to continue?
Of course I understand the situation. But as I said before, the main thing for me now is Sunday's game. To decide what will be and what will not be... I am mainly interested in the match now, then we will see how the people of the Executive Committee will decide."
Are you satisfied with the words of captain Tomas Sucek that the team intends to fight for you as well?
Of course I'm happy, but we all have to fight for the Czech Republic, for the national team. I believe it will be so. It will not be a fight for the coach, but for the lioness that the players have in their chests.
