FIFA has published the decision of the Disciplinary Committee regarding Cristiano Ronaldo's red card in the 2-0 defeat to Ireland on November 13, in the penultimate match of Group F for the World Cup qualifiers.
According to the document, the 40-year-old striker was initially sentenced to a three-match suspension.
Ronaldo immediately served his sentence three days later, missing the convincing 9-1 win over Armenia in Porto, a match that secured Portugal's ninth and seventh consecutive World Cup appearances.
However, following an appeal by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), FIFA reviewed the case, accepting the arguments presented to avoid a longer suspension. The result: Ronaldo will face no further punishment beyond the one match missed, despite it being his first sending-off in 226 international appearances.
The decision was seen as a relief for Portugal, which sees its captain back available for the next phase of preparations for the 2026 World Cup.
