One of the biggest transfers of the summer has become official, Viktor Gyokeres is a new Arsenal player.
He has been linked with Italian clubs for some time, most notably Juventus, but today he has been presented by the Gunners:
" We are delighted to announce that Swedish striker Viktor Giokeres has signed a long-term contract with us. The 27-year-old striker joins us from Sporting Lisbon, where he scored an incredible 97 goals in 102 appearances ."
During his two seasons with Sporting, Viktor helped the team win two consecutive Primeira Liga titles and a Portuguese Cup, and was the league's top scorer in both seasons. He also excelled at international level, scoring 12 goals in his final 17 appearances for Sweden. Born in Stockholm, Viktor began his career at IF Bromapojkarna, where he progressed through the youth system, scoring 32 goals in 31 appearances at under-19 and under-21 levels and making his debut for the national youth team at the age of 17.
In January 2018, the goalscorer joined Brighton, where he spent loan spells at Swansea City, St. Pauli and Coventry City, before moving to Sporting in 2021 and helping them reach the Championship play-off final in 2023.
He will wear the number 14 jersey and will immediately join the team for the pre-season tour in Asia.
