The Bielefeld Regional Court in Germany has sentenced the perpetrator of the murder of Albanian boxer Besar Nimani to life imprisonment.
" This decision of the Court came after the Prosecution's request for a maximum sentence for the perpetrator of the murder. The verdict is not yet final ," the German newspaper writes.
This decision can be appealed to the Federal Court of Justice in Karlsruhe.
German media also explain that life imprisonment in Germany means deprivation of liberty for an indefinite period, at least for 15 years. Only after this 15-year period can the sentence be suspended.
Besar Nimani was shot dead on the afternoon of March 9, 2024 in the city of Bielefeld, where he had lived for years.
The former boxer had a criminal record and frequent conflicts with the law and justice.
In 2012, the district court in Bielefeld fined the Kosovar 1,350 euros for hitting a man in the head. A year later, on August 4, 2013, a situation in a kebab shop escalated, and Nimani and his men clashed with a Turkish citizen. After Nimani's friend provoked the 44-year-old Turk, he hit him in the head with a beer glass. The Turk then pulled out a pistol, shot his attacker, and hit Nimani twice in the leg.
Meanwhile, last year, the former boxer was discovered with half a dozen firearms in his luggage during a police check in Bavaria. He defended himself to investigators by saying he needed the weapons to protect his family. But it is not known whether Nimani was threatened or was smuggling and used this excuse to justify himself.
According to eyewitness reports at the time, a group of five to six people were sitting together in a bar. They then reportedly left the restaurant together. Then suddenly there was gunfire outside the restaurant. Six to eight shots were reportedly fired at the scene.
According to the prestigious " Bild ", the 38-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene by the medical team. The perpetrators of this murder have not been identified by German authorities, while a similar attack against him had also occurred in 2013.
Besar Nimani was a boxer in the "Super Welterweight" category and in 27 matches he has 26 wins and only 1 loss.
He finally retired from boxing in 2019. We recall that it was Nimani's family who initially announced the boxer's death.
