Despite speculation from Russian media about a possible change in the Serbian national team's bench, the Football Federation of Serbia has categorically denied rumors about the departure of current coach Dragan Stojkovic. The reports come from the Russian portal "legalbet.ru", where journalist Anar Ibragimov claimed that former Serbia captain Dejan Stankovic had changed his agent in November 2024, and that the latter had promised to secure the position of Serbia coach in the near future.
The portal also mentions that Stankovic could leave Spartak Moscow at the end of the season, although he is under contract until June 2026. But the Serbian federation has denied these rumors. FSS official Milan Vukovic told the media that there have been no talks with Stankovic about a role in the national team:
" The information about Dejan Stankovic's alleged involvement in the national team is not correct. He is a great figure in Serbian football and enjoys our respect, but there have never been any talks about his engagement as coach of the national team ," said Vukovic.
He also emphasized that Dragan Stojkovic remains Serbia's coach and will lead the team in the important qualifying cycle for the World Cup, which begins with the challenge against Albania on June 7 at the "Arena Kombëtare" stadium in Tirana. This meeting is expected with great interest, not only for its importance in terms of sports, but also for the historical load and the special atmosphere that the confrontations between the two countries have brought in the past.
