Australian driver Oskar Piastri secured pole position at the Imola circuit, valid for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix (Italy). The world championship leader set a time of 1'14”670, securing this result on his last attempt.
Piastri was fastest on a track where it is difficult to overtake, so he is considered the favorite for the race. He will share the front row with world champion Max Verstappen, second in Red Bull, who hopes to start the race tomorrow.
In third place was the Mercedes car of Briton George Russell, who left behind his compatriot Lando Norris with McLaren (fourth). The "top-10" also included Fernando Alonso, Carlos Sainz, Alexander Albon, Lance Stroll, Isak Hadjar and Pierre Gasly.
Total disappointment for the Ferrari car, outside the top 10 with both of its drivers. Charles Leclerc finished 11th, leaving behind his teammate Lewis Hamilton. The "Redhead" failed in front of its fans.
Kimi Antonelli also disappointed on the home track with the other Mercedes car, which finished 12th. Today's practice was characterized by two accidents in the first session, which also brought the red flag.
