The investigation into the refereeing scandal in Italian football is widening, with developments expected to continue until November. If violations are confirmed, disciplinary consequences could be extended until the 2026-2027 season.
According to the investigative materials and evidence collected, within the Italian Association of Referees (AIA) there is suspicion of the existence of an internal system of influence on appointments, informally known as the “Roki system”, linked to Gianluca Roki. The allegations suggest that some referees may have benefited from targeted appointments, which have influenced their professional and financial advancement, while important matches are suspected of being used as a form of reward for referees closest to the management.
In evidence published by "La Repubblica", a referee has stated that after a clash with management, he has no longer been active in Serie A, raising questions about the way careers are managed in this sector.
Investigators are also examining the role of the VAR room in Lissone. According to hypotheses, unofficial communications and verbal interference may have influenced the evaluation of matches, creating opportunities for favoritism for referees closer to the governing structures.
The investigation also focuses on several important appointments in Serie A, including the Bologna-Inter and Inter-Milan matches. According to "La Gazzetta dello Sport", evidence suggests that the selections of referees Andrea Colombo and Daniele Doveri may have been influenced, which raises doubts about the real criteria for the appointments.
Another element under verification is a meeting held on April 2, 2025 at the San Siro stadium, where Gianluca Roki is suspected of having had contacts with figures from the world of refereeing. Investigators are trying to determine whether the identification of these individuals comes from evidence or from wiretaps related to other investigations, including those against Inter and Milan ultras groups.
The investigation remains open and is expected to shed more light on an issue that is calling into question the integrity of the arbitration system in Italy.
