Xherdan Shaqiri has been a player for Bayern Munich and Inter Milan during his career and today he will be a special fan for both teams. In an interview for "Gazzetta Dello Sport", he spoke about this challenge and the stages of his career in these teams that have the objective of winning the trophy.
Do you think Inter can really win all three trophies?
Very difficult, but not impossible. To achieve such a goal you need a perfect season and of course a good dose of luck. But Inter has a very good team and a good team spirit, it certainly cannot be ruled out as a possibility.
Talk about luck, Bayern will have half the team injured...
It's something that could certainly have an impact, especially because the Bavarians' defense was well-constructed. But Bayern also have a lot of quality on the bench. Let's just say that the absences could, but shouldn't, have an impact.
You won the "Treblet" in your first season in Germany. Best memory?
It was all incredible. We felt unstoppable and literally marched through all the competitions. That team had incredible self-confidence, we knew we could beat anyone. We played in a dominant way and we didn't have to be afraid of anyone. At that time I was very good friends with Ribery, he's a really nice guy. We had a great time on and off the pitch.
And in fact your Bayern defeated Barcelona with an aggregate score of 7-0 in the semi-finals… what does it take to win it all?
The most important thing is to have a great team with a lot of quality. And the team itself must truly be a team. A team in which everyone gives 1000% for each other, everyone lines up in the same direction in difficult situations and supports each other. You have to be an invincible unit.
While at Inter, you started strongly, but then things didn't go well. What didn't work?
It was a turbulent period for the whole club. Many players had come on loan and “Financial Fair Play” had a big impact. It was a complicated time in general, not only for me. At first things went well, but as time went by the difficulties increased. Despite everything, I had a lot of fun at Inter. It is an experience I would repeat.
You arrived thanks to Mancini…
A great coach, even though in my time the team was not built in the optimal way.
Do you like Inzaghi?
Watching him from afar, I perceive him as a very active and present coach, who is doing his job very well. He trains in a concrete way, he motivates his players right on the pitch. For me, it is no surprise to see Inter where it is today.
