Skënder Hita is appointed the new director of the State Police, following the dismissal of Ilir Proda.
The news was announced by the Minister of Interior, Besfort Lamallari.
"Today, at the meeting of the Council of Ministers, we approved the decision to grant the rank of Major Leader and appoint the General Director of the State Police, Mr. Skënder Hita. This is a decision based on merit, professionalism and integrity.
Skënder Hita has emerged as one of the most highly rated candidates from a competitive process, demonstrating outstanding experience, clear strategic vision, and unwavering commitment to the law and citizens.
The State Police has a key role in guaranteeing public order and security. Therefore, its leadership requires not only professional skills, but also honesty, ethics and high public responsibility.
"I am convinced that, under his leadership, the State Police will continue to strengthen its performance, increase the trust of citizens and fulfill its mission with dedication in the service of security and the rule of law," says the minister.
Skënder Hitaj was the director of the Fier Police Directorate and is one of the most experienced leaders in the ranks of the State Police, with a career built in some of the most important regions of the country and in structures directly related to the fight against crime and guaranteeing public order.
During his years of service in the police, he held leadership positions in regions with significant security challenges, including Shkodra.
The experience in this district, where he has served as deputy director of criminal investigation, is considered one of the stages that has consolidated his professional profile, given that the area has historically been one of the points where police structures have faced serious criminal events and the need for continuous coordination between operational and investigative structures.
Another important stage in his career is related to the direction of the Police in the Durrës region.
This region constitutes one of the most sensitive areas of the country due to the largest port in Albania, high economic activity, and the large movement of people and goods.
During the period of directing the police structures in Durrës, several serious criminal incidents were also uncovered. One of the most important cases is related to the disappearance of the brothers Indrit and Gentjan Beqiraj, whose testimony helped investigators shed light on several serious criminal incidents in Durrës, Tirana and other areas of the country.
His professional profile also highlights the fact that throughout his career in the State Police, Skënder Hitaj's name has not been rumored for links to crime or criminal groups.
