Artur Zheji's tragedy is not just an individual failure of an emergency team, but a dramatic reflection of the state of public health in the country...
One of the causes that led to the loss of life of renowned publicist Artur Zheji is directly related to the treatment he received at Saranda Hospital and the emergency team of this institution.
After being notified of the patient's serious condition, an ambulance arrived at the scene, but it turned out to be completely unequipped to handle such a critical case.
Instead of implementing the standard protocol for an acute heart attack, which includes cardiac monitoring, oxygen therapy, EKG, aspirin, pain medication, and emergency transport of the patient on a stretcher, the ambulance had only one empty bed, without any basic life-saving equipment.
Most scandalous is the fact that the patient was not taken lying on a stretcher, but was allowed to walk on his own to get into the ambulance, an action that contradicts every medical standard and significantly increases the risk in the event of an acute heart attack.
Another critical element was the lack of preparation of the defibrillator. In every ambulance and hospital emergency room, the defibrillator is a basic device that must be immediately available as soon as a cardiac arrest is suspected. In the event of arrest, the team must start cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and apply defibrillation according to the ACLS protocol. In Zheji's case, not even the most minimal preparation was made for this vital procedure, leaving the patient without the elementary possibility of rescue.
This case shows not only the lack of basic equipment in the Saranda emergency service, but also the lack of professional training of the staff. Instead of being an ambulance equipped to save lives, it turned into a cold and useless means of transport, denying the patient the chance to receive specialized first aid and to arrive alive at a hospital center with higher capacities.
Artur Zheji's tragedy is not just an individual failure of an emergency team, but a dramatic reflection of the state of public health in the country. Citizens lack the most basic guarantee of treatment according to standards, leaving their lives at the mercy of fate and a degraded system that often failed even where every second was a matter of life or death.
Even more worrying is the fact that, despite flagrant violations of medical protocols and reasonable suspicions of negligence that may have contributed to the loss of Artur Zheji's life, law enforcement agencies have not launched any investigation.
To date, neither the prosecution nor the responsible institutions have taken any measures to verify the legal responsibility of the medical personnel or hospital managers, further increasing suspicions that the case is being covered up in silence.
